Monday thru Sunday 10 to 4
I would most likely guess Steens as that is the best but cannot say that is what was there. Yellow can if steens
The seasoning is bagged and available for sale.
Yes you can. There are antiques and some artwork.
Yes that's what he does and he makes a point to greet and meet every patron.
Some of the best chicken I have ever had. Mr Arthur still comes out to sing to the ladies. Love this place.
Great food, service, and atmosphere. Very old general store turned restaurant. The owner was very delightful and enjoyed mingling with the crowd. If you want to call it comfort food, soul food, or country cooking, it was great. My husband and I drive from Tylertown just to check this place out and was worth the time------we will be going back.
Food is fantastic. The service is the friendliest. And if Mr. D is there to sing, this is a must try at least once.
Omg! best place to eat if you're looking for good home cooked meals. The wonderful people that work there truly are appreciated ❤️ it's like going to your family and feeling like you're home.
It was good, but not that much better than other buffets that we've eaten at in the area. I thought it was expensive compared to others also. We could have eaten at a seafood buffet with a lot more food, plus fresh seafood and paid the same price. The building is interesting and has a lot of history. Worth doing it once.
It was well worth the stop along the Natchez Trace. I felt like I was eating in my Grandmother's kitchen. Delicious! Fresh vegetables...black eyed peas, cabbage, lima beans, corn on the cob, fried chicken, fried pork chops, cornbread, cucumbers and tomatoes....should I say more? Oh yeah, homemade cobblers.
Road trip, we were told of this place, stopped,,really glad we did.. Yep best fried chicken ever. Everything else was great. Glad we stopped. Really worth the time to enjoy s great meal
Now this is an out of the way place that is worth driving for. Drove an hour out of our way just to eat here. The chicken is the best ever and Mr D is the greatest host there is. Sang a pretty song for me and my wife. The cobbler will kill you with goodness. If you make a trip for one place ever make it this one you will not be sorry. The building gives the place such a great old time feel. I will be back often.
Great buffet food and desert for about $15.95 per person. Thousands of business cards and many relics on display in the old store turned restaurant. Ladies, Mr. D. will likely serenade you!
Hands down the best fried chicken
Great Food! Amazing Fried Chicken and Peach Cobbler!
Five star. Best fried chicken buffet I’ve had in years. Lots of great salads and sides. They kept bringing hotel pan after hotel pan of never frozen, expertly seasoned and fried to crispy perfection chicken. The chicken would be quickly devoured by the patrons. Then more magically arrived.
You mustn't miss this one. The chicken is every bit as good as claimed along with all the sides. And if you see Mr. D, call him to your table and there is a real good chance he will sing to you!
Worth the drive if you are staying in Vicksburg. The buffet is outstanding. Several different items on the buffet and all good! The fried chicken is second to none. If you want to experience southern cooking, stop by and treat yourself to a great meal. They also are located in an old country store with an unbelievable collection of antiques. Stroll around and check out all the items from years past.
Excellent! Ate here TWICE in as many days.
It’s been 6 years and I dream of the fried chicken. And stewed okra.....
If you are lucky enough to be in this area and you are hungry, you need to eat here! Yummy fried chicken and southern sides, but don’t skip the fried pork chop, never had better. Wish I lived closer, the fried chicken and pork chops are addicting!
I really do wish i could give 5 stars but i can't. I would give 3 and a half if I could. I get you have to take into account the ambiance of the building and it's historical nature. I get you must realize that Mr D ( I believe that's his name) is somewhat of a celebrity having been featured on food network and in many publications. I also understand now why it's only the chicken I've heard everyone rave about. If I'm going to pay $15.95 for WONDERFUL fried chicken the vegetables need to be exceptional as well. Like I said, that chicken is something else but I believe the salt got lost in the kitchen when it came to the vegetables. I honestly never added salt to my food until today. They are presented beautifully but are as bland as they can be. In closing, would i go back, probably not. Would i recommend someone else to go, yes. I say yes because even with the blandest vegetables I've ever had in my life, the chicken and the overall experience is worth the high price at least once.
I had forgotten about stewed crowder peas until we stopped here. Although we showed up right at closing time they brought out some freshly fried chicken. Yummmm. . The food was genuine southern and reminded me of my grandmother's cooking so very long ago.
The fried chicken is delicious fantastic and service very friendly. Authentic southern country food. Really enjoyed it.
Gotta be the best Fried Chicken in all of Mississippi, and probably surrounding states. Was down working at Grand Gulf Nuclear for several weeks and tried this place. It's the real deal!! Arthur Davis (owner) knows his food. And everything on the buffet was fantastic ! Arthur even sang a couple of blues lines about his family cornbread recipe. He can sing too!! Just a super nice guy. Kinda fella you could hang out all day with. Definitely telling people back in Arkansas about this place! You just don't come across these kinds of places much anymore.
Great place. The best fried chicken! Loved the atmosphere. Wonderful service. It was a bit pricey for a lunch. If I go there again I will see if there are items other than buffet.
I have to say I was disappointed in the food. I did go at an off hour and could tell everything had sat for awhile. The chicken was good, but didn't seem very different than others I've had. The sides where the same way with some being cold. And the price was $17.06 for just myself which I thought was crazy! The staff was very friendly which is a plus, but I doubt I'll go back.
As advertised, the fried chicken really is GREAT, and while the remainder of the food on the buffet is average to good, the cost of the buffet is not justified. IMO it is at least $5 per buffet too high. I would go there more often when in the area, IF the price were more in line with similar "home cooking" buffets. Great fried chicken being served in an old general store setting is nostalgic but it doesn't get me past the price. With tax, and a less than average tip, the cost per person was more than $20 person.
The fried chicken ,the greens it was all delicious. The the owner was a very nice man.so friendly..
How do I give this place more stars? My love of food takes me many places, and my first time driving two hours into the country side of Mississippi took me to the best fried chicken of my life. I decided to travel back today, over a year later and was met with even more of a heart warming experience. The chicken was excellent, no doubt, but the hospitality was even better. Not only does the owner, Mr. D, greet every single customer that enters, but he undoubtedly leaves them with a smile on their faces. My visit today ended with him singing a song to me, and giving me a beautiful fresh rose. He is the definition of a kind person, and is the reason I will return again and again. The amazing fried chicken is just a bonus.
Absolutely the best fried chicken. Arthur Davis is the friendliest proprietor you'll ever meet with a good word and a song. Any problems and he'll make it good (like the hockey puck corn bread biscuits - he made fresh ones for me).
BEST FRIED CHICKEN IN AMERICA. Along with the food, there was great service. The owner, Mr D, also came around and sang to everyone. Such a great experience and will return soon.
Great fried chicken but bring an appetite as it's a buffet with lots of good food. If I could just order a plate of chicken I would give it 5 stars. I just don't have the appetite to justify a $15 buffet.
Wonderful, feel at home place. Great fresh, home style foods made with love. The owner is very kind and sweet makes you feel just at home, and if your lucky he'll sing to ya a little. Beautiful little antiques inside you can purchase. ❤
From the time that you enter the doors the hospitality and service was amazing! The food...OMG ...Remember Sunday dinners at Grandma/Mama's house it was delicious and the owner Mr. D makes you feel like family. Trust me you will not regret going
My family and I had lunch there last week. We wanted a picture but he wasn't taking pictures due to covid19. The chicken was good but everything else was mediocre. The dressing was horrible it tasted like greasy non seasoned gravy. The only thing that was good was the chicken and watermelon. I Know alot of people rave about his food but the only thing that was good was the chicken and watermelon and nothing else. P.S. the fried chicken gave my husband diarrhea.
